How to wire a ZKTeco Access Control device with the door
Have you ever wondered how can you open the door by using your fingerprint or your ID Card?
Do you have an installation where you need to "wire" (connect) a ZKTeco device to open a door ?
All right then... Stop looking over the forums and websites ! because here you'll find all the information you have been searching.
- About ZKTeco devices :
There are two categories of functions that ZKTeco devices can provide: Attendance Management and Access Control.
- Attendance Management device : Only allows people to register their presence by check-in / check-out logs within the day. Those logs can be downloaded to a software to generate a daily/monthly attendance reports.
- Access Control device : does the same work as an Attendance Management device, and also provides the ability to open a door when a registred person confirms his/her identity using fingerprint or ID Card on this device.
The purpose of this article is to show you how you can wire a ZKTeco Access Control device to allow opening the door by identifying and confirming registred employees, and also by using an exit push button (from inside the office to go out).
Depending on your door type and how it's made, it can be locked with a normal electrical door lock or by an electromagnetic lock. Both of them are powered with 12V DC power supply.
- How to do the wiring connections :
Below is a typical wiring diagram for ZKTeco devices :
NC = Normally Close : This connection is used to maintain the power electricity for the electromagnetic lock so the door remain closed. It's very simple: while the power is ON the door is closed, if the power goes OFF then the door will open. And so, when this connection is triggered by a valid employee identification on the device, it will cut the electricity off from the electromagnetic lock and the door will open.
NO = Normally Open : This connection operate in the opposite way of the NC. It's used with a normal door lock so the door will be opened ONLY when it's triggered by a valid employee identification on the device, and then the door lock will be powered on to allow the employee to open that door.
PS : always use NC or NO connection with COM to complete the circuit. Otherwise the wiring will fail.
Exit Button : this accessory known by Push button as well, is used to open a door mostly from the inside like to exit the office or to open the office door from the reception desk without any identification information necessary. This button required two wires to be connected to GND+BUT on the device board and it doesn't need any power supply.
- How to use a ZKTeco Access Control device with a turnstile
As one of the access control solutions, the turnstile is a mecanism that can block the employees access to their company from the main entry until they confirm their identities by punching an ID Card or putting a valid fingerprint into the biometric access control device.
- F18 as an Entry device: the wires will be connected into the Open INPUT that will allow to open the turnstile from A to B direction (Entry)
- MA300 as an Exit device : the wires will be connected into the Open INPUT that will allow to open the turnstile from B to A direction (Exit)
In some cases, we can use a push button to open one-way access direction (entry or exit) or both ways and the wiring into the turnstile motherboard is the same as with the access control devices.
